Have you ever asked yourself WHY you want to encounter God? Obviously, it is His will for you to have intimacy with God. But why do YOU want to encounter God’s Holy Presence? When you know the answer, then you are ready to know how to have a personal encounter with God.

While you read this article, expect to experience the presence of God to show up right where you are. I’ll share with you a life-transforming resource that I PROMISE will help you encounter God. So, what are the 5 steps to Encounter God?

BE With God

I remember when God told me to look up the definition of “be.” I was really surprised by what I found. It means to ABIDE. What really changed my relationship with God was when I looked up the synonyms of “be.” Continue. Remain. Stay. What if you could continue, remain, and stay in His Holy Presence?

Imagine you abiding in God’s presence. What would that look like for you? Picture yourself remaining with Him throughout the day. You CAN stay in God’s presence. This can be a reality for you when you know how to have a personal encounter with God. I love to encounter God and stay in God’s presence, but it’s a choice. You can choose to continue, remain, and stay in His loving presence as long as you like. The choice is up to you.

When you make life-changing decisions like being in God’s presence, your life will never be the same. I’m sure you have heard that those you hang around with the most, you become like them. Don’t you want to become more like God every day? We are to behold His glory and as we do we are transformed. Is it as simple as beholding Him that leads to your transformation?

Yes. He is drawing you in closer and closer. When you draw near to Him, He draws near to you. He takes pleasure when you simply BE WITH HIM. You don’t have to say anything. You don’t have to do anything. Just BE His beloved child in whom He is well pleased. As you choose to do this on a daily basis, it will lead to having intimate conversations with God.

LISTEN To God

The more you listen to God, the more you will hear Him. Selah! Pause and think about that. It makes so much sense, doesn’t it? If you want to hear anyone MORE, you must listen to them more. Why do I recognize God’s voice? Because I choose to listen to His voice. The more you choose to invest time listening to His voice the more will KNOW His voice. He created you to listen AND hear His voice, didn’t He?

I’m sure you have heard that God gave you two ears and one mouth for you to listen twice as much as you talk. You can encounter God when you decide to listen to HIM. I am emphasizing HIM instead of others. Yes, you can learn so much from ministers and teachers about WHO God is, but wouldn’t you really like to hear it from God personally? So if you are listening to a lot of others talk about God, I recommend it’s time to take a break from them and listen to the ONE who knows you better than anyone else.

Since God knows you better than anyone, you’ll look forward to listening to that still, small voice in your heart. Many do not hear God because they are trying to figure out what God is saying to them in their head. God does not live in your head. He lives in your heart. Look at the word HEART. What do you see? Take the T off. Do you see HEAR? Now take to H off. Do you see EAR? Now you know WHERE to listen to God. Once you know where you can find His gentle whisper in your heart, you can have a personal, intimate conversation with Him.

TALK With God

It’s my desire that everyone have the opportunity to get closer to God where they can recognize His voice. There is that still, small voice on the inside of you. Yes, His voice is gentle, calming, and peaceful. In fact, you can learn how to recognize WHISPER in your heart. How would your life change when you know that you know God’s voice from now on? When you call upon God, He WILL answer you. (Psalm 91:15)

You may be seeking answers from God today. When you know He is your best friend and will give you His answers at the right time, you will want to talk with Him more and more every day. I want you to start today talking with God as if He is your best friend. He IS, isn’t He? What would you talk about when you converse with one of your closest friends? God wants you to hear what you want to say to Him, so simply start having a conversation with Him.

Having a conversation with God.

If you are not sure how to have a conversation with God, ask Him what HE wants to talk about. He desires for you to share what’s on your heart. Your relationship with God will be so enriched from now on when you decide to share what’s on your heart with Him. I encourage you to actually talk out loud with Him. When I do this, it helps me to stay more focused on what I am saying to Him but more importantly, it helps me concentrate on His responses.

God wants you to HEAR His responses to your questions, doesn’t He? If you are not hearing Him that well, it could be because you have time-wasting distractions in your life that are trying to drown out His voice. When you have a conversation with a friend, do you choose to listen to others distracting voices or do you give your friend your full attention? God is wanting your F.A.T. That is your Focus, Attention, And Time. Are you willing to give God your F.A.T. so you can talk with Him more?

THANK God

I’ve noticed the more I thank God, the more I am aware of His constant presence. He LOVES when you thank Him for WHO He is, not just what He has done for you and your loved ones. There is something special about thanksgiving that helps you know God better. The Bible tells us to enter His gates with Thanksgiving. Imagine you are God for a moment. One of your children comes to and begins their conversation with thanksgiving. How would that make you feel?

Now how do you think God feels when you are so thankful? He loves it. It changes your mindset, attitude, and expectations when you are so thankful to God for WHO He is. God loves to be close to you and hear how thankful and grateful you are to Him. Don’t you like being around people who are thankful? I believe when you make this life-changing decision to be thankful EVERY DAY, that you will encounter God in a new way.

What if you start your day with thanksgiving and you encounter God ever before you get out of bed in the morning? You were created to have a personal intimate relationship with God and one way is to be thankful. I also believe the more you thank God, the more INCREASE you will experience in your life. When you MAGNIFY what you already have in your life with thanksgiving, you can expect God to give you even more. If you are thankful for His presence now, what do you think will happen?

REST With God

Did I make a promise to you that you WILL encounter God’s presence today? Yes, I did and you are going to discover how EASY it is by resting with God. Most of us are so busy each week, that we don’t invest time to rest. The best way I have found is to rest with God and in God. Over the years, the Lord has shown me the simplest and easiest way to hear God’s voice. How?
