How To Enter Into God’s Rest

I remember learning how to enter into God’s rest when I was reading about God’s grace. It was a life changing moment for me because at that time I didn’t know how to enter God’s rest. But now I know its possible for me and you.

Many people believe when they enter God’s rest it means to do NOTHING. That’s not the case. When you are entering into His rest, you are saying to God, “Lord I trust You. I believe in You. I am leaning on You. God I am relying on You.” 

Entering His Rest is Possible

When God tells us we can enter into His rest, then it is POSSIBLE. Why would He tell you to do something you can’t do? He will only tell you to do what you can do WITH Him. God knows what is best for you and a starting point of rest is ENTERING in.

Once we enter IN, then what?

We need to STAY there, don’t we? I like to share Proverbs 3:5 a lot with others because it helps us know the heart of the Father. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.” Years ago I asked the Lord HOW to trust Him with ALL my heart. He said, “Stop leaning on your own understanding.” (God has a great sense of humor)

Recently He has been revealing to me even more about trust and rest in Him. God gave me an image of holding onto a steering wheel. He called it the “How Wheel.” If you and I are holding onto the How Wheel, then we are saying we don’t trust God YET.

He told me, “Let go of the How Wheel.” It was if He was moving me from the driver’s seat into the passenger seat. What does a passenger NOT do? A passenger does not DRIVE the car. But a passenger is to REST. Are you starting to see yourself scoot over to the passenger seat and REST in His presence?

When you are letting God take the wheel, then you don’t have to figure out HOW everything is going to work out. That is up to God. Your responsibility is to get to know God so you can trust Him rely upon Him and obey Him. Again this is all possible with God.

Peace is also Possible

Imagine being invited into a room called Peace. Would you enter in? I would. In fact, I would stay there. I love Peace so much. (Jeffrey actually means Heavenly Peace) So if you would enter into that room, why not stay there? Its no different with resting in the Lord.

When you learn how to enter into God’s rest, then commit to staying there. Which means, you keep your hands off the How Wheel. God will tell you what to do as you rest in the passenger seat. He will bless the work of your hands, right?

So you can work and rest at the same time. How is that possible? Why not allow the Lord to work through you. When He asks you to do something, you are doing it through Christ which strengthens you, true?

Have you ever felt like you were trying to FORCE something to happen and it did not work at all? I’ve been there many times. I was holding onto the How Wheel. Remember God is not in a hurry, nor in a rush. He does things at His Peaceful Pace. You do want to be in God’s Perfect Timing don’t you? Then REST.

The moment you enter into God’s rest you will sense a peace like never before. Once you get a taste of it, you won’t want to go back to the old way of living. It will take time to learn how to enter into God’s rest, but it will be well worth it.

I suggest asking God what REST looks like for you and Him. Then ask Him HOW He wants you to enter and STAY in God’s rest. He knows what works best for you. If you are a visual person, ask Him to give you an image like He did with me with the car.

Remember, nothing is too difficult for God. Right now He is leading you into His rest. I recommend you follow God’s lead.
