Do you know God wants to answer your prayers more than you do? Let’s explore many ways that God answers this special prayer.
You may be wondering what specifically does God want you to pray. Our guest contributor, Glori Winders, shares her experience and a simple way to pray modeled by Jesus that God WILL answer.
The Art of Prayer
The journey of faith is filled with many questions, one of the most common being, “How should we pray?”
I have had a family need lately that pulls on my heartstrings and has made it difficult to know how to pray. A compounding issue has been some “well-meaning” folks quoting scriptures to me that are taken out of context.
It is a very good thing that Jesus provided an answer to the question of how to pray in the books of Matthew and Luke. Let’s take a look at these passages using The Passion Translation and The Message Translation for a fresh perspective.
Here’s what we find in The Passion Translation:
Matthew 6:9-13: “Pray like this: ‘Our Father, dwelling in the heavenly realms… Manifest your kingdom realm… Forgive us the wrongs we have done… Rescue us every time we face tribulation…'”
Luke 11:2-4: “Jesus taught them this prayer: ‘Our Father, dwelling in the heavenly realms… Manifest your kingdom realm… Forgive us of the sins we’ve committed… And keep us from being tempted to sin.'”
And here’s what The Message Translation brings:
Matthew 6:9-13: “With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: Our Father in heaven… Forgive our sins… Don’t let us be fooled into taking the wrong path or fall into Satan’s trap.”
Luke 11:2-4: “So, this is how you should pray: ‘God, you’re the One in charge… May everything that you want be done here on Earth… Forgive us for where we have gone wrong… Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.'”
Upon analyzing these verses, we can distill five key components of prayer:
1. Recognizing God’s Majesty: We begin our prayers by recognizing and honoring the divine power, glory, and presence of God. As our heavenly Father, He is the source of all wisdom, love, and power. We reverence His holy name and His dwelling in the heavenly realms.
2. Desiring God’s Will: We express our desire for God’s kingdom and will to be made manifest in our lives and in the world around us. This means seeking to live in alignment with God’s purposes and principles, striving for His justice, love, and peace to prevail.
3. Requesting Our Needs: We ask God for our daily needs, both physical and spiritual. This demonstrates our dependence on God for all aspects of life, acknowledging that He is our Provider.
4. Admitting and Forgiving Wrongdoings: We admit our mistakes and ask for forgiveness, while also offering forgiveness to those who have wronged us, following the principle of mercy God shows us.
5. Asking for Protection: Lastly, we ask for divine protection against all forms of evil and temptation, acknowledging our human frailties and our need for His guidance. Recognizing our human weaknesses, we seek God’s strength and guidance to navigate the trials and challenges.
This simple yet profound guide on prayer is a treasure from Jesus Himself and has given me great comfort. As we embrace these principles, we’ll find ourselves drawing closer to God and understanding His will more deeply.
So, friends, let’s use this as our roadmap in this extraordinary journey of faith.
Now that you know more ways God answers this Special Prayer, are you going to be more expectant when you pray the Lord’s Prayer from now on?
