How To Follow God’s Lead

What if you were taught how to follow God’s lead when you were only 10? Your life would not be the same.

There comes a time in your life when you realize God’s Way is much better than your way. The question is, “How do you follow God’s lead?”

1. Admit Your Way Is NOT The Best Way

When you study the life of Jesus, you will learn just how much He depended upon God. He knew God’s way was the best way. He also knew man’s way was to reflect God’s kingdom.

If you truly desire to live the best life, then make a commitment to live God’s way from now on. Jesus tells us in Matthew 16: 24, “ If you want to follow Me, you must deny yourself the things you think you want. You must pick up your cross and follow Me.” (Voice)

Jesus wants us to forsake our way of living for God’s way. That means we must be willing to give up what we want for what God wants. In other words, surrender our will for God’s will.

Surrender means to “cease resistance”. If you are resisting God, then you have not totally surrender to Him yet. Why would you resist the one who loves you and wants what’s best for you?

2. Get To Know Who God Is

The more you study who God is in the Bible, the more you will know His heart. You will discover that He is all knowing, all powerful and everywhere.

If you could choose a leader to follow, wouldn’t you want to follow the one who knows where He’s going? God also knows what He’s doing. He is trustworthy and faithful to follow.

As you study the heart of God, you’ll learn that He can be trusted. In Proverbs 3:5, Solomon tells us, ” Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make.” (The Passion Translation)

God is your leader, you are His follower. He leads, you follow.

God will help you in every decision you make, if you let Him. He desires you make your decisions with His counsel and advice. Wouldn’t it make sense to follow the All Knowing God?

3. Learn To Listen And Obey God

How can you follow God if you can’t recognize His voice? The Bible says that you can hear His still, small voice. God wants you to know His voice so you can follow His lead.

Jesus tells us, “My sheep hear My voice, I know them and they follow Me.” If you are a Follower of Jesus, the truth is you do hear His voice. You can ask Him to help you to discern the difference between your voice and His voice.

Once you learn to recognize His voice, then it comes down to be willing to obey Him. Remember He is the one leading, you are the one following Him. God desires for you to listen AND obey Him.

When you decide to commit to obeying God that means you will be choosing His will over your own will. There is one will God wants to come to pass and its His will. If you had a choice of having your will or God’s will come to pass, which one do you believe is best for you?

Remember when you learn how to follow God’s lead, you will forsake your way of living for God’s way. The more you get to know God, the more you will trust Him and follow His footsteps. Finally, you must be both willing and obedient following God’s lead.
