Do You Value Yourself?
November 20, 2019 2:27 amIf I were to ask you, do you value yourself, what would you tell me? Recently I asked myself that question and said no. Why?
You may be like me and not see yourself the way God sees you. You may know God loves you. In fact, you may know God really likes you. But do you truly believe He values you?
If you have this view of yourself it could have started when you were a child. Many years ago I heard that the way you view your earthly father is how you view your Heavenly Father.
How you see God impacts how you see yourself. When you see God as valuable, worthy and priceless, then you can value yourself. Why?
God created you with value. You are one of a kind. There is not one like you. You are rare and that makes you priceless. Now its one thing to know this, its another thing to truly believe its true about you.
Yesterday I asked a friend of mine if he valued himself. He wasn’t quite sure. He then asked me how do we know when we value ourselves? Here are 3 ways you can value yourself.
1. Agree with God
God can only tell you the Truth. He cannot lie. Since He cannot lie, then what He tells you about your identity is true. When God tells you that you are valuable, worthy and priceless, then agree with Him.
Why would you disagree with someone who always tells you the Truth?
Your true identity comes from God. He created you, made you in His image and after His likeness. Why not ask God to show you an image of how He sees Himself? Why?
Because when you see God for who He is, then you’ll know His value. Since you came from God, who is valuable, then that automatically makes you valuable as well. In other words, you are valuable because God is valuable.
Why not agree with God from now on how valuable you truly are in His sight?
2. Bless Yourself
Did you know when you say what God says about you, that you are blessing yourself? Many times we can beat ourselves up with our words. God says in His Word that death and life are in the power of the tongue.
You GET to bless yourself with words that edify and build you up. The key is to find Scripture verses that reveal your true value. When you start confessing these verses, the image you have on the inside of you changes.
What you say long enough, you will believe.
If you don’t not value yourself right now, then you are believing a lie. The purpose of a lie is to deliberately and intentionally deceive you. A lie about your value is really just covering up the truth of how amazing you already are.
So start speaking the Truth over you instead of lying to yourself. What you say you will believe. Why not speak blessings over yourself? Its your choice isn’t it? The more you speak the Truth of your value, then you will start treating yourself in a whole new way.
3. Become Healthier
One sign that will let you know if you value yourself is your health. When you truly value yourself you take care of your body, don’t you? Someone who values who they are makes wise, healthy decisions.
God values your health, doesn’t He?
He wants you to value your health as well. Every time you make a healthy decision, you are reinforcing your value. You get to make healthier decisions from now on. Each day when you chose a healthy lifestyle, you are saying to yourself, “I value myself.”
You also need to take care of your emotions. I know what this is like firsthand. This past year I have had a time or two each month grieving my Dad’s death. In fact it happened last night.
What has worked best for me is to verbally share with God how I feel. The more I share my emotions, the sooner I feel a release of the pain. I highly encourage you to make it a habit to share your feelings in a healthy way.
Why not make healthier decisions to show just how valuable you are?
Let me encourage you this week to begin making new Valuable Habits that reflect your identity. Find Scripture verses that reinforce your value and worth. Confess those verses so you can hear and believe your worth. Decide right now that you are going to value yourself by making healthier decisions because you love yourself.
What would you recommend to someone to help them value themselves?
